Like all technological industries, the world of SEO and Internet Marketing is forever changing. With every dirty trick mastered by spammers, search engine giants like Google come up with radical changes to their systems that stop even the most skilled SEO experts in their tracks.

If you want to stay successful in SEO, it’s important to keep informed of key changes and then design your marketing strategies accordingly. Below are the three most drastic changes to the mechanics behind Search Engine Optimization.

Social Media Has a Big Impact on SEO

The New Role of Social Media: A new concept is already being implemented in search engine algorithms. It is known as “Social Proof”. This translates into tweets, a ‘like’, or a +1 on social networking sites having equal or greater weight than a traditional backlink. The reasoning for this is that backlinks were originally intended to count as a live vote made from a real person. The problem with this, however, is that most average people don’t actually own blogs.

Purely taking into account website and blog backlinking alienates all but SEO professionals from influencing Internet popularity votes. There are millions of blogs cluttering the Internet with no real person behind them, but almost everyone with an Internet connection has a Facebook or Twitter account. According to many insiders, social media is the answer for cleaning up the clutter from SEO spammers.

However, it is important to note that a fake twitter account churning out 200 tweets a day will be seen for what it is, and given just as much credibility as an extremely poor backlink. On the other side of the coin, tweets from real people, with real followers, will carry the same weight as a trusted blog. Will this be effective? Or does it just mean the Web will be polluted by SEO titled Facebook fan pages instead of blogs and websites? Only time will tell.

The Evolution of Internet Technology

Emergent Technologies: The steady advance in computing power has led to increasingly more accurate SERPs. This is due to algorithms processing information at a much faster rate during indexing. The evolution of the Mobile Web has redefined Internet marketing by offering users instant, on-demand search results. To stay in the game, most major websites now have mobile friendly interfaces available.

Other notable technologies like XML and RSS feeds have allowed for the transfer of summarized bits of content to third party sources like Feed Demon, where new material is automatically flagged for viewing. These innovations are celebrated by marketers everywhere.

Search Engine Algorithms Updated More Frequently to Combat SEO Spammers

Panda: Google’s Panda update was an extensive change to its algorithm intended to serve as a nail in the coffin for spammers and shady content mills. While not even coming close to winning the war against junk content, Panda has forever shaken up the world of SEO.

The update was designed to identify low-quality pages that are littered with text relevant to search engine queries but offer very little in regards to user experience. These sites are created solely to attract traffic and gain ad clicks, but offer almost no relevant quality content. Duplications are also hard hit, with Google determining the original author and punishing unoriginal material. Panda’s wrath affected 12% of American search results.

The above three game changers are just a small sample of what the future has in store for SEO. What should be apparent to all, however, is that the only way to remain viable in the world of Search Engine Optimization is to offer original, innovative content. Internet Marketers that wish to stand the test of time must remember one important fact, quality written SEO content is king.

The following article describes 4 key areas which can be examined as a potential source of new link building ideas.

Recent Keyword Trends

Tools such as Google Trends and Yahoo Buzz can help you identify recent keyword trends which you may be able to utilize within your website design to bring in more hits. If you find current keyword trends have nothing to do with your website or product, try and think of inventive ways to incorporate them in your site. For example, if a famous celebrity does something spectacular that creates a breakout trend on Google Trends, write a funny or informative post about it for your website. If users like what you have written they will share your post through Facebook, Twitter and other social media tools.

Utilize Discussion Forums

Discussion forums are a great place to find ideas. By reading through the most popular posts, you will be able to identify common problems and issues that people are experiencing. Once you have clearly identified a problem, create something that can help with it. This could be anything from a FAQ, online help tool or a phone app.

Another method for utilizing forums is to design a set of useful questions to ask forum users, relating to your specific subject or industry. For example, if you work for a cosmetics company, you can create a set of questions asking users about their favorite product. You can then use this information to create more useful and interesting keyword rich content for your site visitors.

Consumer Review Websites

Consumer review websites are also a good source of inspiration when looking for new ways to build keyword links to your website. Look for recurring complaints or common problems. Come up with a way to fix the problem, or turn it in something entirely different. For example, you could come up with a series of witty viral emails upon a topic that is commonly complained about.

Perform Keyword Research

Use your preferred keyword research tool to discover new ways to build links. Look for problems, or things that can be turned into humor. Prefix your keywords with words such as “fix”, “problem”, “how to”, and “tips”. You will then be able to see which phrase is the most popular, and create relevant keyword rich content based on it. You will then be able to offer content on a subject people are actively searching for, and this will increase your chances of keyword link marketing success. By regularly running through these methods, you should be able to generate new keyword link building ideas on a frequent basis.

Although it may seem complicated at first, it’s actually quite easy and just requires consistent effort. Plenty of individuals look towards the internet as a way to earn extra money these days, and for good reason too. With so many different techniques, there’s bound to be something that appeals to everyone when writing a search engine optimized article. Here are a few pointers for writing a search engine optimized article.

Find Keywords For Your Article

Before you start writing, you’re going to need a valid keyword phrase to target. While you could attempt to optimize an article for a broad term such as “acne,” there’s going to be a lot of competition. Instead, it’s best to find a long-tail keyword phrase that has a high average search volume and few competing websites. This way, you’ll be able to rank well in the search engines without performing external optimization.

To do this, first go to the Google AdWords Keyword Tool. In the textbox labeled “Word or Phrase,” type the primary keyword you’re going to be writing about. Next, enter the required security code and click “Search.” You want to focus on the number of international searches that each term gets, so click on the column titled “Global Monthly Searches.” The terms with the highest number of monthly queries will appear at the top, while those with the lowest will appear at the bottom.

Browse through the keywords until you find phrases that are at least three words in length, and have a global search volume of 100,000 or less. As soon as you’ve found a keyword that fits your topic, conduct a broad and exact Google search to determine its competitiveness. To do this, you need to type the keyword phrase into Google as you normally would and press “Search.” If the results are below 20-million, proceed with an exact search by placing quotations around the phrase and pressing the “Search” button once again. If there are less than 1-million exact search results, you’ve found an excellent keyword that you can probably rank well for.

For the example term “acne,” the keyword “how to get rid of pimples” might be an excellent choice. It has 60,000 searches, 1.7-million broad competing sites, and 752,000 exact competing sites.

Keyword Placement In Your Article

Now that you’ve found a suitable keyword that you think you can rank well for, you’ll need to write your article. Besides providing valuable information to the reader, you need to include your selected keyword in a few specific locations. First, you’ll need it somewhere within your article’s title. “How to Get Rid of Pimples” or “Learn How to Get Rid of Pimples” are two excellent title options for an article about acne.

You’ll also want to have the keyword within the first paragraph, preferably in its first sentence. This indicates what your article is going to be about to the search engines. If you can’t include it in the first sentence, just place it somewhere within the first paragraph. If you decide to use subheadings, ensure you work your keyword into one of them too. Lastly, include the keyword in the final paragraph of your article and you’re all set.

Basically you need the selected keyword within your title and in the article’s body three times for a standard 500-word article. If you exceed that amount, it might be slightly harmful to your ranking potential as search engines may deem it as keyword stuffing. In the end though, you should really focus on providing well-written and informative content to your readers. As long as people like the content you’ve written and are willing to share it with others, your placement in the search engines will increase.

As you can see, writing a search engine optimized article isn’t that hard of a task to do. It does require time, attention, and consistent practice though. If your first article doesn’t achieve a high-ranking, you’ll just have to keep experimenting with future articles until one does.

IMG ALT tags are one of the many opportunities to do a little on-site SEO is relatively easy and can boost not only your search engine rankings, but also your organic Google traffic. You can use your IMG ALT tags to enhance your SEO with little more work than an added snip of code and some keyword research.

What Are IMG ALT Tags?

An IMG code is an image code, meaning the visitor’s browser displays the image that you point it to. You can choose the height, width and more from codes included with this code. Another code is the ALT code, which is a string of text that is displayed if the image cannot be loaded.

They are added after the image source; for example: <img src=“/files/bird.jpg” alt=“cuckoo”> could be your code if you are trying to display a picture of a cuckoo.

Why Are IMG Alt Tags Important?

First of all, images are indexed in Google’s search engine. A shocking number of images are named after irrelevant keywords, or have no ALT tag at all. If your image is named properly and has good ALT tags, you may end up near the top of the search listings for the topic of the image. People who are searching for that on Google may just click on your image and browse your site.

There are also people who can’t view the original image for one reason another – perhaps they are viewing your site on a special device, or your image eventually gets broken by accident, or they are blind. If the image has an ALT tag, the website will display this instead, helping them figure out what should be there.

These are the original reasons that ALT tags were created. Now, search engine ranking algorithms know that ALT tags are generally relevant to the image when they are included, so they will take IMG ALT tags into consideration when figuring out what your site is about.

How Do I Use IMG ALT Tags for SEO?

You have to find relevant keywords based on the image contents, then find the image code in your webpage. Once you have done that, put a space after the closing quote of the SRC property, then type this: alt=“keywords” (putting the keywords in where indicated, making sure there is a closing bracket after the alt tag).

You can find relevant keywords by either using common sense or, if you are more concerned with SEO, by using a keyword research tool to find keywords that you can rank the image easily for.

IMG ALT tags are just another opportunity to do a little extra SEO tweaking on your site and generate traffic, start taking advantage of them today!

Whether it’s through SEO or paid traffic, keywords are how prospective website visitors are targeted. Unfortunately, most internet marketers make the mistake of battling against each other for the same competitive keywords by relying too heavily on research software for keywords. With everyone using the same handful of tools and, therefore, sharing the same results, even the smallest niches can get crowded. In addition to creating unnecessary work, this can also lead to choosing keywords that are not specific enough within a niche or that simply aren’t “buying” keywords or keywords that are of interest to website visitors ready to take action.

The prevalent idea is that the more search volume there is for specific keywords, the better it is for generating targeted traffic. Sometimes that’s true, sometimes it isn’t. Long tail keywords that describe a concern, fear or yearning from people in a niche is much more valuable, even with lower search volume, than broader keywords that generate thousands of search engine queries every month. Best of all, finding such keywords is not difficult at all and it requires no expensive software either. Google AdWords provides free research tools to illustrate options for both broad keywords and long tail keywords.

Target Your Audience by Choosing The Right Keywords

By far, the best way to find what’s on the minds of the people engaged in each niche is to read it in their own words and the best way to seek out this information is by searching in related message boards. Often a simple Google search for the main niche keywords will yield some immediate first page results. If not, simply searching for niche keywords (like “lose weight”) in addition to the word “forum” will return message boards packed with the kind of members that every marketer wants on their website.

Once on the message board, check the forum listings to find the most appropriate forums to search in and then simply read the thread titles for ideas. The more replies and views a thread contains, the higher the chance that the topic is indeed one that people in the niche are passionate about. If multiple threads exist with a similar title, all the better. The monthly Google search volume for the thread titles isn’t important because the high number of posts and views from forum members is proof enough that the topic is of high interest, so even if the topic doesn’t draw thousands of monthly searches according to keyword research tools, visitors who find your site using these ultra-targeted keywords will be much more valuable than visitors who arrived via broader searches.

Use Niche Keywords

The best reason to use this method is that it produces timely keywords on subjects that are recent within the niche. Tools that research keywords provide data from previous months, but if your website is in the weight loss niche and a hot new diet trend just hit the news today, finding out about it from a forum provides a valuable running start ahead of the competition. Forum research provides a steady stream of time relevant, highly targeted keywords that can quickly establish a website as an authority within the niche. Best of all, it doesn’t cost anything and the steady stream of fresh keywords never ends.

With the stock market down more than 16 percent since its post-recovery highs and the Dow swinging hundreds of points every day, you are probably getting a bit nervous about your retirement savings. Perhaps you called your broker for reassurance, or reached out to a trusted financial planner for advice and guidance. In the midst of a tumultuous stock market, it just makes sense to reach out to an expert.

The same is true of your business. You would not dream of investing in the stock market without some professional guidance, or at least a working knowledge of stocks and money matters. So step back and ask yourself if you are being just as diligent when it comes to your business. Are you seeking out the best SEO strategy so your company can rise to the top of the Google rankings, even as the algorithms and rules keep changing? Or are you leaving it all to chance, putting up a few articles and hoping for the best? If your answer to the second question is yes, you might need to rethink your strategy and look for a more effective strategy.

Plan an Aggressive Online Marketing Strategy for your Business by Consulting an Expert

Seeking the advice of an expert is essential when it comes to your business. In fact, most successful businesses rely on a whole host of experts to help them make the most of the opportunities that exist. Those businesses might hire a tax consultant to keep their tax bills low and financial planner to help them effectively manage their cash flow and extra capital. The business might also employ consultants who can help them identify new markets and tailor their response to meet the needs of new and existing customers.

Smart businesses also know that they cannot afford to ignore the online world. Those businesses also know that if they do not exist in a Google search, they might as well be invisible to their customers. And since most customers still find the information they need through Google searches, a sound SEO strategy is also a sound business strategy.

Can’t Afford to Invest in Online Marketing? Here’s Why You Can’t Afford Not To!

Many companies are tempted to reduce their SEO and online marketing expenditures when the economy turns bad and money becomes tight. But in fact it can make sense to invest, more instead of less in a challenging economy. If you can grow your exposure and brand awareness while your competitors are pulling in the reins, you can gain a competitive advantage that will last for years. Now is the perfect time to put your business in the virtual map, and a sound SEO and online marketing strategy is the perfect way to accomplish that goal and gain the market share you need going forward. Far from being an unneeded expenditure, a sound SEO strategy can actually help your company make more money and stay afloat in even the most challenging economic climate.

You have no doubt seen those sponsored links every time you do a Google search. Those AdWords links are designed to draw the attention, and the money, of web surfers in search of specific information about a product, service or topic. And they can be remarkably effective for some businesses.

The problem is that those AdWords campaigns come at a steep cost, and they capture only a small portion of actual web traffic. The most popular AdWords and search topics are naturally the most expensive, and that could greatly increase the cost of any web-based marketing campaign.

Organic Search Traffic > Google AdWords Traffic

In addition to the cost, clicks on AdWords links represent only a small percentage of web traffic, while organic search results account for a far larger piece of that pie. In fact, statistics show that AdWords clicks account for a mere 15 percent of web traffic, so webmasters who plan to rely on an AdWords campaign alone may be sorely disappointed.

The remaining 85 percent of the web traffic pie comes from organic search results, not from an AdWords campaign. That means ordinary web surfers typing the word or phrase they want to research into the Google search box. The results they find will have a huge influence on what they do next, and website owners and marketing managers should pay careful attention to that fact.

While a well executed and properly thought out AdWords campaign can boost the visibility and reputation of your company, a powerful organic search based SEO campaign can get you a far bigger bang for your buck. If you doubt the importance of SEO and page rank on your business and its click through rate, just consider these startling statistics.

Research reveals that the website with the number one Google page rank for a given search term or phrase garners 42 percent of traffic from web users. Drop your Google page rank one place to number two and you can expect to see that web traffic percentage drop all the way down to 12 percent.

Use your Internet Search Marketing Budget Wisely

As you can see, putting your money and your marketing budget into a well developed and effective organic search SEO campaign can give you quite a bit more value for your limited funds than a similar AdWords campaign. A quality SEO campaign looks at the way ordinary web users search for the information they need, and they work with your company to design its website to meet those needs.

The effectiveness of an organic search SEO campaign can be enormous for your company. If you doubt the cost effectiveness of such a campaing, just take a look at how much you are currently spending to buy all those top Google AdWords. When you add it all up, you will no doubt see that a marketing campaign focusing on helping your customers find you through organic search can be much cheaper, and much more effective in the long run. After all, 85 percent of traffic comes from those organic search results, and you cannot afford to ignore such a vast segment of your potential customer base.

When people want to know something, they likely turn to Google for the answers they need. In just a few short years Google has emerged from relative obscurity to be the most influential, and certainly the most financially successful, company in the history of search. The fact that Google is the dominant search engine means that the difference between a prime spot in a Google search and a spot several pages down can mean the difference between success and failure.

PPC or Pay Per Click Marketing with Google AdWords

With their very survival at stake, more and more companies are looking to the Google AdWords program to get their firms noticed and move to the top of those all-important search results. The Google AdWords program allows companies to pay for placement, and that in turn can get their advertising message in front of literally millions of customers.

Of course not all AdWords are created equal, and the laws of supply and demand plays an important role in the program, just as it does in the rest of the competitive marketplace. Companies bidding for the most sought after AdWords on Google can expect to pay for the privilege, and those firms need to allocate their marketing dollars wisely to make the most every search engine opportunity.

So just what are the most expensive AdWords in the Google universe? Like so much else on the web, that list of high-priced words is subject to change, but a recent list was quite revealing. Those highly sought after AdWords categories include:

Top 20 Most Expensive AdWords
